Sixteen Sundays Returns

August 12th, 2005

After 24 weeks without Steelers football, Sixteen Sundays returns. This project was born because of a unique year when the Steelers played no games on ABC’s Monday Night Football. And thus the unbelievable record setting 15-1 regular season occurred over seventeen weeks in 2004-2005, sixteen of them Sundays. And that rhythm guided my photographic expedition into the experience of being a Steelers fan.

The 2005 schedule for the Steelers includes three regular season games on Monday night, and a Christmas eve match up in Cleveland that falls on Saturday. I won’t be changing the name of the website to Thirteen Sundays, but will instead hope that the sixteenth Sunday occurs in Detroit.

The first season of Sixteen Sundays focused on fans in Pittsburgh and its surroundings. In 2005 I will venture to the edges of the country to join displaced fans in supporting the Steelers away from home. I received many comments from people last year about how the photographs from Sixteen Sundays made them feel like they were home in Pittsburgh. This year I hope to show Pittsburghers that Steeler pride spreads across the nation. And for everyone who has never experienced it, I hope to provide a new perspective on the excitement inside Heinz Field.

While the website is about photographs, I will try to add as much text as possible to put those photographs in context. As I will be traveling more this year, updates to the website may not occur in the same timely manner as last year. Instead of weekly galleries, I will be posting chapters by adventure.

Hope to see you on the road.
