Week III: Miami Hurricane Diverts Me To New York City
September 27th, 2004

Hurricane Jeanne made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane just before midnight Saturday 35 miles north of West Palm Beach. Luckily I was looking for Steelers fans in New York City. The game was postponed from 1:00 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday night. So at 1PM I went to Times Square to catch the update. I bumped into a few Steelers fans who were lamenting that the Steelers never get covered on local telelvision. For kickoff I met up with the SteelersInHoboken at a bar called Texas-Arizona. The bar was packed with Steelers fans and rang out the polka. For the second half I trekked to the Upper East Side of Manhattan to find the last few die-hards watching the game at Ship of Fools until it ended at midnight. The postponement meant that many people stayed home but I found the people who truly cared about the game, and enjoyed watching it in the company of other Steelers fans.
* A special note for bartenders and servers in bars outside of Pittsburgh…wearing a Steelers shirt or jersey will double your tips. Good Luck.
Final Outcome: Steelers win 13 – 3
– NFL.com voters choose Quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER of the Pittsburgh Steelers as the PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK.
– Steelers WR HINES WARD Named AFC Player Of Month For September
