Week XIV: Sunday Snowday

Breaking with tradition, I decided to start shooting on Saturday night. This is when the players are supposed to report to the Pittsburgh Hilton for meetings and curfew. There you’ll find a lobby full of fans waiting for a chance to meet the players and perhaps get an autograph. This weekend was also special because the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club of Baltimore was in town for their annual banquet and Sunday tailgate party that included the Terrible Grill, the Terrible Bar, the much-appreciated “Terrible Restrooms,” and even Elvis. Around 300 people joined the PSFCOB for countless pounds of meat, more than a dozen kegs and even cake. Why do they all drive up from Baltimore? Because as Steelers fans, Pittsburgh is a much safer place than Baltimore.

Sunday was a snowy day so I hopped from fire to fire trying to keep my hands warm. Some people sat around fire pits, others huddled over trashcans, but they all warmed frigid fingers. Mixed in with the usual shrines, signs and shenanigans there is a hint of the coming holidays. Stockings, snowmen and Santas now mingle with Francos and frankfurters. Christmas is coming and Santa has a lot of lists from little girls and boys of Steelers Nation. Hopefully he has something in his sack to go with the AFC North title.

Final Outcome: Steelers defeat New York Jets 17-6
Steelers 12-1
Steelers are AFC North Division Champions
Jerome Bettis’s touchdown pass to Jerame Tuman is voted play of the week
